PS4/PS5 compatibility
How do I make my device work with PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5?
- For PlayStation 4 compatibility, you need to use the PS4 Mode or the PS Passthrough add-on.
- For PlayStation 5 compatibility, you need to disable the PS4 Mode add-on and enable the PS Passthrough add-on. Additionally, you must select PS4 as the input mode in the settings section and choose whether the device functions as a controller or as a fight stick. (The TIKITAKA PS5 edition device comes factory-set with these settings, so there is no need for additional configuration.)
What is PS4 Mode?
- PS4 Mode is an add-on that grants GP2040-CE compatibility with the PlayStation 4 console. It was built using the efforts of another open source firmware project named Passing Link.
- The Passing Link team is in no way affiliated with the GP2040-CE project, but their work and information they provided were greatly appreciated, allowing the implementation of this feature that users highly requested
What is PS Passthrough?
- PS Passthrough is an add-on that uses another controller or dongle to respond to authentication, making the GP2040-CE compatible with PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 consoles.
- Depending on the controller or dongle used, support may be limited to only PlayStation 4.
- For more detailed information, please refer to the PS Passthrough section of the Web Configurator.
- Add-ons section of the documention.
Why does the controller stop responding after a while on PS4 or PS5?
- PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 use an authentication mechanism to ensure that only approved controllers can be used on the consoles. If a device does not implement this authentication mechanism, the controller will be subjected to an 8-minute timeout.
- Even when using PS4 mode on a PC, there is no timeout, but we recommend using XInput mode for the best compatibility on PC.
What is the 8-minute timeout?
- An 8-minute timeout is as follows:
- Connect the controller to the PS4/5.
- Press the PS button to initialize the controller.
- Play for about 8 minutes.
- The console rejects the controller due to a failed authentication.
- The user unplugs the non-functional controller.
- Return to step 1 and repeat the process.
How can I avoid the 8-minute timeout?
- With the GP2040-CE firmware, you can upload the necessary files to authenticate the device. This allows you to authenticate the device through the PS4 Mode add-on and effectively eliminate the timeout issue.
- When using an OLED display, the input mode may change from PS4 to PS4:AS. This indicates that the device has been successfully authenticated with the PS4/PS5 console.
How can I obtain the necessary keys and files for the PS4 mode add-on?
TIKITAKA does not provide files related to obtaining these keys and files.
